Yes. The end. I’d be an asshole if I ended my post there now wouldn’t I lol? Last night, during the Chicago Bears disappointing lost to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game, Yeezy tweeted up a storm about how excited he was in releasing his joint project Watch The Throne with Big Bro Jay-Z, the release of his “All Of The Lights” visual in one week and of course the obvious: the release of his sixth solo project this summer.
Upon reading the news of the arrival of Ye’s newest creation, I thought this can’t be true. Maybe Ye’s just drunk of the Goose while watching the Bears, which he was, so the excitement sort of rushed his soul like he did that pale lil country gal during the VMA’s last year. But, he confirmed it with another Tweet saying his new album will hit this Summer. Hmm, tooooo soon Yeezy.
Let’s break down the time frame for Mr. West’s five previous projects, shall we? Ye’s first effort The College Drop Out dropped February 10, 2004 establishing Ye as a serious double threat in the game. I mean we knew he could rap, but not like what he displayed on his debut. Moving forward: Late Registration hits about 13 months (April 30, 2005) after the debut. Another masterpiece lyrically and production wise from the Chi-Town native. Yeezy ushered in singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion to further the already proficient sound of Kanye West which earned the rapper a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, but was also nominated for a slew of other Grammy Awards including Best Album of the Year.
16 months later (September 11, 2007), along comes Graduation, Kanye’s third solo LP, which in my opinion is Kanye’s best album to date. Receiving much critical praise, Ye outsold 50 Cent’s Curtis LP by 300,000 copies in their Battle of the Titans release day competition. A feat well deserved. 14 months down the line (November 24, 2008) Yeezy hits us with the somber composition 808′s & Heartbreaks, a project infused with the wallowing sounds of a broken heart, memories of his deceased mother and auto-tune, a device Yeezy still much uses today. The project wasn’t a favorite of mine. Well that’s not entirely true because when I’m reminiscing over a certain someone, I’ll throw it on. I digress. Forget I even said that. Damn it, LOVE! I hate you! Ok, I digress.
Almost two years later (November 24, 2010), Yeezy unleashes the powerful, subjective, potent and long winded effort My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, a project where Yeezy exposed himself to the CORE. Probably on the same level as 808′s but with more lyrically driven content and a harder and authentic sound. Whatever Ye’s been through over the past two years, he detailed it in Yeezy fashion. His love affair with Amber Rose, the boldness of interrupting Taylor Swift on that VMA stage and its affect on him mentally, not understanding his position in this industry let alone this universe and everything in between. Not to say we marvel at human destruction, but Ye’s downfall made for some GREAT music.
So now here we are….January 24th, 2011 and Ye’s already preparing another musical tale for our earbuds to get lost in. Let’s not forget the release of Watch The Throne which is scheduled to hit this March. God only KNOWS what to expect from that project. And if you follow my opinionated thoughts on this page and/or my Twitter account, you already know how I feel about the first offering from the LP. What will Ye’s story be this time? Where will he take us? Are we so use to Mr. West’s struggle with society that we’re not use to the positive Ye? Could it be we’ve grown accustom to this type of behavior?
Is it fair to tell Ye to disappear for 12 to 24 months to create a 12 track opus that we’ll play over and over and over or do we welcome this rush of excitement? I can’t imagine the creative playing field he has set up for Watch The Throne, so can you ponder the playground he’s going to run rampant on for the summer release?
Personally, let Watch The Throne do it’s damage. Don’t abandon that humongous effort that could be deemed as one of the greatest collaboration projects to hit our speakers. But again, who am I to cage creativity. Is it fair to tell me to not post for 12 hours because I killed niggas with one post? Damn sure isn’t. I’m going to continuously kill the competition no matter what anyone tells me. I mean experience is the best teacher so if anything Ye could only learn from this situation if it turns out negative. And if it doesn’t…..well let’s just hope it doesn’t.
What do you guys think? Too soon or right on time???

I do agree that he would be releasing it too early. Most likely Watch The Throne would still be in rotation but if he’s in the zone, he’s in the zone. He’s gonna hit the studio up everyday and still make the product that most everybody will enjoy. So I can’t complain, the more music from Mr. West the merrier. As long as the finished product isn’t lackadaisical and is top notch, why not.
Ye’s super talented. I believe he already produced and wrote songs for the next 3 years. But he wont drop a new album unless there is enough hype around him… this will take a while… its business, he wont drop it unless he’s damn sure that he’ll outsell any musician at the time. so why bother? jus chill and watch. I hope If Ye promises to deliver a solid product, he’ll deliver hot shit… even if its too soon. unlike sherbert…
btw, whats with sherberts mixtape? makin these empty promises, it kills me sherbert, it kills me!
first off, let me say….. that was well written, good sir. i commend your article post and its facts. it may be to early for him but maybe its isnt… only he knows what he has in store… and i guess all we can do now is play our favorite cuts in the meantime & wait.
I don’t really think he’ll have an album ready by summer. He said the same thing following 808s. He said let me drop 808s and I’ll hit you with a hip-hop album by summer. That album came a year and a half later. Personally I think its dumb to drop watch the thrown so soon.
I also read somewhere that if he drops another solo album this year that Dark Fantasy wouldn’t
t be eligible for next year’s Grammy’s? Is that true?
Well written write up with supportive fact checking. I think that its a bit too soon for a follow up to MDTF, after Watch The Throne I’ll be tired of Ye’ and After multiple listens to HAM, I don’t fuck with HAM musically (Word to Cudi). I just hope its better than Best Of Both Worlds, Jay’s Last collab effort.
Too soon? Yes. But we know, we KNOW, that ‘Ye will not be releasing his sixth solo LP so soon. Kanye is too much of a genius, too much of a legend, to make a rookie mistake like so. As for the direction of his sixth solo LP, it will be such a POSITIVE album. How long’s it been since we had a mostly positive album from West? It’s been a long, long time. I’m excited, extremely excited. The only thing I can ask Kanye for is to go even deeper into his own roots, as well as hip-hop’s roots, for this album. I want Just Blaze, the RZA, No I.D., the beat-making legends on this album. Thank you, that is all.
Yes too soon. Too eager to be the best rapper…?
When the scans of the Rolling Stone article on Lil Wayne surfaced the other day and he said that he’s shooting for a March/April release I felt that THAT is too rushed a time period for releasing Carter IV. With Yeezy’s tweet of a new LP coming over the summer (tentatively) I feel like that’s absolutely perfect. Everyone knows that I don’t fuck with the H.A.M single from Watch The Throne….shit I spent damn near two hours on Twitter denouncing that bullshit and it’ll def be the “skip this quick” song on the CD. Yet call me crazy but I think Kanye is at a creative peak right now….I think this whole ordeal with the press and Amber has led him to really be free with who he his and too not apologize for the music he makes and as a result we’ve gotten (and will continue to get) some sure fire heat rocks. Let’s be real: not one Good Friday song (with the exception of the mastered Christmas in Harlem) was wack. NOT ONE. Not even the Justin Bieber jawn….and not many of us fuck with dude, but we was all rocking to that jawn. Even Kanye’s contributions to other artists songs/LP’s were heat rocks: Cudi, Ross, Drake, Nicki…whether it was a verse, a beat or both Kanye did not disappoint.
So Ye’s releasing ALL NEW music over the summer. That’s cool because WE NEED THIS. Let’s be real: there aren’t that many mainstream artists these days who we can look to that consistently deliver raw authentic music. Not just Hip Hop: MUSIC. Hov’s not gonna be in the game very much longer (can’t believe I said that), Beyonce’s not REALLY making soul music and the youngins like Drake, Cudi, Kendrick Lemar etc have quite a while to go before they reach Ye’s level if ever. Maybe we’ll start to see Ye in that Hov/Prince zone where he’s releasing music once a year every year for the next 5 years…..that right there would equal quite a catalog and quite a legacy especially if the music remains raw and authentic which I believe it will be.
I don’t know about you, but I welcome it. I’m glad that Ye is challenging himself. Bring it on dude….Semper Fidelis.
? dude go sleep, what are you talking aboutttt there are soo many hugeeee albums that are going to drop this year, drake, lil wayne, 50 cent.. he needs to stay relevant
you’re right, it is too soon to drop an album. but since when has Kanye done whats right? MBDTF was his comeback album so to speak, watch the throne is gonna be a raw hip-hop album, neither of them will carry(carried) the prototypical singles, videos, and will be too raw for radio play. So for his next step he will try to comeback to the mainstream. Keep in mind hes never won a grammy for album of the year, and he said he wanted to be the artist of our generation. I say his next album outshines all of his previous work.
Lowkey, I believe you are an unbelievable idiot. Kanye is not negative, he’s observative. Most of you who commented are riding Lowkey’s dick. 808′s and Heartbreaks wasn’t good? That was his second best album! He keeps getting better with every album!
MBDTF > 808′s and Heartbreaks > Graduation > Late Registration > College Dropout
HAM is crazy! The bass, the guitars, the chorus is sick! Ya have bad taste in music. Watch the throne is gonna be crazy! His sixth album release date is not too soon! He’s been in work mode lately! He’s been GRINDIN! I wouldn’t be surprised if he designs another sneaker and some clothes. And it’s because he’s in grind mode that he can deliver so many great offerings in such a short time span. There is no doubt in my mind that both albums will be on the quality level of Michael Jackson’s Thriller! As I said, with every album Kanye KEEPS GETTING BETTER! Stop d-riding lowkey and cop the albums when they drop. One thing I can guarantee you is that this is gonna be one hell of a year for hip hop! It’s gonna be one hell of a beginning for this decade! “Happy New Year!” (50′s voice) HAHA!
o btw Hip Hop is at it’s peak! : Jay Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Rick Ross, J. Cole, Wale, Jay Electronica, Ya Boy, Pill, Cyhi Da Prynce, Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar, Asher Roth, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Jon Connor, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Hoodie Allen, Ace Hood, Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, Alley Boy, Meek Mill, Mickey Factz, Vado, etc., etc.,
Hella diversity and skill! And none of them are even at their prime! And a lot of the OG’s getting ready to get back in the game! It’s gonna be one hell of a decade!
old niggas and hateful bloggers w/o priorities always be bitchin! SMH!
Lowkey is an idiot while you name Ace Hood, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane in the same sentence as Eminem, Jay Electronica, J. Cole, ehhh?
I said variety! Everyone has different taste! Ace Hood, Rick Ross, and Gucci Mane are all ill! Stop cock-riding the lyricists! At the end of the day, songs are songs and they are meant to sound good. All three of them six of them make great music! Not everyone is in their bedroom with their headphones on trying to decode messages. Some people are at the club trying to have a good time! Hip Hop is a lot more than lyrics! You, my friend, have got a lot to learn.
You’re just trying to be relevant throwing out a laundry list of names of people on your iPod… go listen to Talib Kweli’s album like 18 times in a row and let people who understand real hip-hop breathe in the meantime. Saying 808′s > any one of College Dropout, Late Registration or Graduation should get you banned for life. Much less all three.
And why people gotta go equating constructive criticism with hating? I disagree with Low’s opinion on HAM, etc. but it was a pretty balanced post and he obviously wants to see Kanye succeed.
Lowkey? I’m just going to start off by saying you need some sort of laxative because your just full of sh*t apparently today. I know your getting paid decent atleast I hope so to entertain us all with your sarcastic, meaningless, sometimes dis-tasteful ever so boring that need alittle bit of uplifting at time reviews. But hey, you can’t please everybody.
Back to the topic at hand. When an artist such as Kanye West comes along, why would you want him to take a 12-24 month leave of absence? Last time I checked MBTDF was a critically acclaimed album? His best as far as ratings go, correct? Not too many artists come along with the talent that Kanye possesses. I mean honestly if he could make an album every single year, I’d be all for it. But for him to pretty much have 3 albums in such a short time span, I personally think its a blessing if your a fan. I love all forms of music and Kanye definately is one of the artists that I look forward to hearing. Do I think the album is going to come this year? Probably not but if it does, I’ll be excited. I’m already excited about “Watch The Throne” as well as you are i’m sure and then when he drops the album this summer(like he has said), you’ll be just as eager to buy that too.
“Watch the Throne” will indeed do its damage as well as his next album. Its only going to increase album sales for his previous albums once they are released and especially if the reviews are just as high. You think he doesn’t know what he’s doing? His music is good, you can’t deny that, now his personality? Thats questionable depending on who you ask, but music? No. You of all people gave that Kid Sister song praise about you boomin’ that in your living room? I mean come on, you of all people shouldn’t have any say in the matter about if an artist is releasing an album too soon. *Sigh* Its ok man, I blame it on the cheese you ate last night that got you backed up. Alka Seltzer works wonders man, i’m telling you!
Ooooooo, yall niggaz is SENSY when it comes to Kanye lmao! I love it…..keep it coming boys and girls.
If HAM is whats coming with Watch the Throne, Ye better wait cause that shit was straight up garbage.
Ham was garbage, busta ripped it better than ye and hov lol
HAM? I put ham on my bun. I put LPs in my bun. Eat that shit! Y’all have to eat. Even if it tastes whack!
I’m positive Kanye has enough tracks for an album right now, the way he’s been going in lately, but Def Jam’s gonna make him push it back. He’s not in it for the money but they are absolutely going to want to maximize the profits of MBDTF (which is still putting out singles, obviously), Watch the Throne and the new LP. No artist gets anywhere trying to fuck with the industry’s cash flow. Everyone here would love to see some new Kanye this summer but I’d personally be surprised if it comes out before the 4th quarter.
Sidenote: Watch The Throne better not all sound like HAM…I expect all those classic producers he keeps talking about to give us that retro sound. I see what they tried to do there but to me the record’s a near miss.
You have the release dates wrong on his previous albums…Late Registration came out about 18 months after TCD on August 30, 2005…Graduation came out over 2 years later on September 11, 2007…
Besides that yes I think if he were to release his next solo LP this summer it would be waayyy to early…I think if Watch The Throne drops in March as scheduled that is even to early…Let MBDTF play out a bit more than 4 months before dropping something new…I think if he waited till summer for WTT then another year for his next project that would be much better…
More than likely the album release date will get pushed back as the summer approaches. I’m sure Kanye is just releasing this info to keep his buzz going.
Simply put it Kanye is the MAN. Everyone of his albums have been commercially successful yet kept him in touch with his fans. MBDTF Is massive. I think with the Jay Z album and his own he will own this year lol. I just wish he doesn’t jump on the Lex Luger type beats and sticks to his own sound.
Hmmm. Watch the throne. Mdbf. HAM.
Good luck guys.
Too soon. Focus on the current album, its being out-sold by pink friday!
